From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
