The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
